Dancing with the Stars Spring 2008: The First Night, Part Two

Tonight on the second half of the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars, the six female celebrities took to the dancefloor and strutted their stuff for viewers. But first, last night's men's performances were reviewed with backstage confessional commentary from contestants intermixed. Then... the dances!

The Dancers: Actress Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough
The Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Funny Quote: "... I've been wearing my heels from the minute I get out of bed." Shannon, on her method of getting accustomed to dancing shoes.
The Music: Shut Up and Drive / Rihanna
The Outfit: Short red with one sleeve and fringe trim.
The Performance: I think this initial performance was better than I'd expected from her initially. She wasn't as awkward as I'd thought she might be and was generally on the beat. I don't think her perfectionism got to her as badly as it could have.
The Evaluation:
Len - "High energy and a really good performance." He warned her to watch her hip and leg action and encouraged her to keep wearing short dresses.
Bruno - "You are definitely a sexy minx" and encouraged her to work on her legwork.
Carrie Ann - She praised her confidence and energy, and said to work on her flexibility.
The Scores: 7, 7, 7 = 21

The Dancers: Tennis Champion Monica Seles and Jonathan Roberts
The Dance: Foxtrot
Funny Quote: "This is my chance of going to the prom." Monica, on why she's doing Dancing with the Stars.
The Music: Bubbly / Colbie Caillat
The Outfit: Long, off the shoulder pink gown with silver accents and open back; hair updo.
The Performance: Monica did well with her facial expressions - she seemed to be trying to perform, which was nice to see. She was, however, awkward on her feet.
The Evaluation:
Bruno - Praised that she set up the dance with a "Grace Kelly like feel" but criticized where the dance went.
Len - "I think it had a lovely romance about it" but agreed with Bruno that she needs to "lift it to shift it".
Carrie Ann - "You got out there and you went for it... there's a beautiful delicateness that I'd like to see you develop."
