New Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH: Fun and Function
Looking for the latest in point and shoot digital cameras? This month Canon released the latest in their Powershot Digital ELPH series with the SD1100 IS. The main feature that sets the SD1100 apart from its predecessor, the SD1000, is the addition of the Optical Image Stabilization. This
along with an upgrade to 8.0 Megapixel adds an appeal to this camera that begins to set it apart.
This latest compact sized camera offers face detection that now optimizes white balance for portrait shots, AF point zoom, and a 2.5" high resolution (230,000 pixels) LCD screen. It showcases Canon's new motion detection technology that helps avoid image blur.
The SD1100 also offers all of the favorites that have come to be expected from a digital camera. Tools such as 3x zoom and a variety off flash modes are present. There are 9, yes count them 9, scene modes including fireworks and aquarium. There are 3 focus distances; normal, macro, and digital macro. And 9 different modes to capture the scene in just the right conditions whether it be auto or manual. As with most digital cameras there is also a video feature which you can capture both sound and image with a selction of fps. It uses the standard SD memory cards and Li-on battery.
Some fun features also on this camera include the Color Swap mode in which you can choose colors within the frame to exchange and the Color Accent mode in which you can isolate one color leaving everything else black and white. Also the camera comes in a variety of colors: "Bohemian Brown", Pink Melody," "Rhythm and Blue," and "Golden Tone". Also, like the other compacts the SD1100 is a very small camera that measures in at 3.4 x 0.9 x 2.2 inches ; 4.5 ounces.
Are the specs for this camera off the charts? no...not really, but it is definitely a front runner in a market that continues to offer the same old camera in new fangled packages. If you are seeking a small and simple point and shoot digital camera that will not disappoint when you get into the wrong lighting or a situation with lots of movement then the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH is right for you. (and I must add that the bohemian brown color is stunning)
