Handmade metal Christmas ornaments are fun family craft project anyone can make. These ornaments are easy, small, and very affordable to make. Overall this project should only take a few hours and cost less than $20 for quite a few ornaments.

To Make Homemade Metal Christmas Ornaments You Will Need:

Aluminum Cookie Sheets (the disposable kind)
Hammered Metal Spray Paint or Acrylic paints
Paint Brushes
Ribbon
Scissors
Needles
Cookie Cutters
Black Marker

I like to use those disposable aluminum cookie sheets for this project. You could also use aluminum pie plates or even aluminum foil if you had to. The aluminum foil will not be as sturdy, but the kids should still have fun.

The first step is to trace out or draw your Christmas ornaments onto the Aluminum cookie sheet. Little kids can use Christmas cookie cutters to trace out patterns. Older kid may find that they like to create their own designs.

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the orname. I like to use a piece of sand paper to light smooth the edges of the aluminum. It will not cut you, but you may find that your scissors ntsleft small ridges. These can be easily sanded out for a completely smooth edge on the ornament.

Now the real fun can start. It is time to decorate the Christmas ornaments. If you are going for all of one look, like all antiques white, then limit the supplies the kids have to work with. For a more eclectic look, let the kids decorate their creations as they please.

Use a heavy thick metal needle to poke holes in your aluminum. Think of pie safe doors when doing this. These are the perfect way to create an authentic and antique look for your Christmas tree. If you do not want the kids to use needles, those wooden skewers you can by at the grocery store work well for this. Tooth picks are also and option.

You can also use pressure on the needle to push in lines, dot, and details that do not poke through the aluminum ornament.

Now, you have a few choices to make at this point of the craft project. You can leave the Christmas ornaments aluminum or you can paint them to look like rusted metal or even wrought iron.
