Spring is here and its time to get that house cleaned. While it is more fun to skip the chore go out and play, giving your bathroom a thorough cleaning will help to keep it in good condition and lower maintenance costs. Here are my tips for spring-cleaning in the bathroom.

Scrubbing the Shower and Tub: Using a scrubbing brush with a long handle will save your back and allow you to do a thorough job. While I prefer natural cleaners, for spring-cleaning, I like to break out the heavy-duty stuff and use a commercial tub and tile cleaner. I spray that liberally in the tub and shower, make sure the room is well ventilated and take a break. When I feel like the detergent has done its job, I go back, give the shower, and tub a thorough scrubbing being sure to get in all of the corners, edges or crevices.

Cleaning the Fixtures: It is very important to spend special attention to bathroom fixtures at least once a year. Your need to use a product to remove mineral deposits from your shower heads, tub, and sink faucets. This will allow your water to flow well. Next, use a toothbrush to clean around the base of the faucets as lots of nasty grime can collect in these areas. Finally, shine up those fixtures with a bit of mineral oil.

Cleaning and maintaining grout: If your shower and bathtub regimen did not clean the grout in your bathroom, you will need to give it special attention. I like to use Kaboom toilet bowl cleaner with the bent head to apply the bleach-cleaner directly to the grout. I apply them on all of the grout lines in the shower, along the caulking lines around the tub and shower, and where the floor meets the tub and shower. Let this sit until the strong smell dissipates and then wash these areas down with water.

I try to use natural generally too, but I do use the heavy duty stuff two or three times a year.

Great cleaning tips! I use natural cleaning instead, but your ideas work, too. :-)
