A househusband is a man who takes great pride in his duties, which involve more than vacuuming and dusting. Many househusbands also take care of cooking for the family on top of their other domestic duties. But how can you prove to your househusband that you enjoy his cooking?

Compliment Him

A man who spends a great deal of time and effort preparing a meal for his family would like to see more than his wife and children inhale what has taken the best part of an hour or more to prepare without so much as a word of gratitude in return. However often you let your husband know that you like his cooking, do not think that after the first six months of complimenting him that a simple thank you is no longer necessary. Everyone likes to feel that they have done a good job in the kitchen, whether that is a working wife and mother or a stay-at-home father and househusband. Instead of giving the obligatory "nice stew, honey", mention what you particularly liked about the stew. Did you like your husband's choice of vegetables, seasonings or the stock? Offer sincere commendation so that your husband does not feel that the compliment is empty.

Second Helping

I am not suggesting that you eat two full helpings of a meal your husband has prepared just to show him how much you have enjoyed the meal he has just prepared. Try serving smaller servings, so that you can eat a second every once in a while to show your husband that the meal he has prepared for you made a big impression on him.

Clear Up

If your husband has spent a long time preparing dinner and the kitchen is full of dirty dishes, it would be a great compliment to him and to his cooking if you were to help by clearing up after yourself. It shows respect for your husband and the effort he put into the meal. Nothing quite says "I love your cooking" than helping clean the dishes or putting them in the dishwasher ready for the next load.

Takeaways
  • Make sure you compliment your husband on his cooking, but be specific
  • Have a second helping every once in a while so he knows you enjoyed the meal
  • Help out by clearing up afterwards

In our country[India] we have a community of housewives but what you have suggested is a rare commodity. I have read simiar tips'to husbands to make their wives[obviously it is the proverbial housewife who is now euphemistically referred to as ' homemaker']in our magazines -I enjoyed reading your article.

My husband cooked once. He cooked pasta, melted butter in the pan BEFORE draining the water, and melted slices of American cheese on the pasta. It was edible, but needless to say I didn't want seconds. Unfortunately I don't lie very well.

How to prove it? The attorney in me laughs at that question.
