Every person has experienced a worry feeling from time-to-time in one's life. From sweaty palms to obsessively clearing one's throat, it is a feeling that you wish you could do without. So how does one combat this feeling of worry when it strikes? The following list provides some age-old techniques in relieving worry.

Deep breathing. Although this suggestion sounds rather simple, it may not be for some people. Try cutting off the television, radio, and Internet. Find a quiet place, dimly lit and begin to breathe. Avoid rapid breathing, but slow, evenly paced, deep breathing like the kind you may have noticed people do when they are meditating. Notice how you breathe and nothing else. Concentrate on your body when you breathe in and out. You will find that you will begin to focus more on the breathing and less on the problem.

Exercise. When the thought comes to mind that you are worrying over, take some time to exercise. You may want to walk, run, dance, perform Yoga, workout with a DVD or television program. The exercise will stimulate the happy chemicals in your body (endorphins). Some of you will feel revived while others may feel tired, but either feeling is good when you are trying to reduce stress.

Sleep. Going to bed is always a good way of taking your mind off of what troubles you. Many times people are overwhelmed by stress, because they just don't get enough sleep. The baby is keeping a couple up all night, the demands of a new job, money woes, in-law drama, unresolved issues from the past, and relationship drama are all examples of problems that can rob you of your sleep. If need be, take something to help you get to sleep. There are herbal teas and extracts such as chamomille for those of you who can't stomach pills for helping with sleep.

Create distractions. When you are overcome with worry create a distraction for yourself. Reading books, listening to music, taking a shower, getting your hair done, going to the movies or gaming are all great ways to reduce stress. However, avoid going to places or participating in any activity that will aid to your worry.
