If you are going to have a Thanksgiving party, you need to have food that can be served easily and prepared beforehand effortlessly. You probably will not want to serve appetizers on the same table as your dinner will be served. Instead, you may want to opt for a cranberry cocktail with crackers that can be served in your family room. This will be more welcoming when the guests do arrive.

You can prepare the cranberry cocktail the day before your party. What you will want to do is wash four cups of cranberries then put six cups of water in a pan and cook the cranberries until they turn really soft. Then strain the cranberries, using cheesecloth, and add one cup of sugar to the cranberry juice. Heat the cranberry juice up just until the sugar dissolves. Place this in the refrigerator until the next day. When you take it out of the refrigerator simply add the juice of one freshly squeezed orange and one freshly squeezed lemon.

For the main dinner itself you can offer fruit salad, roast turkey with dressing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes with gravy, candied yams and hot rolls with butter. After dinner serve up some pumpkin pie and coffee.

Once the guests have been seated around the table allowing someone to get busy carving the turkey you may be in search of a way in which to divert the guests’ attention. If you place a small notebook and pen at each seat you can play a small game. Of course you are going to want to give each guest time to write down their answer before reading the next question. Here are some questions that you could use:

Takeaways
  • Play a game at your dinner table to pass the time when the turkey is being carved.
  • Serve something simple as an appetizer when guests first arrive.
  • Serve appetizers in the family room and dinner around the dining room table.
