Oktoberfest is an annual two-week festival that originated in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is usually celebrated during late September and early October. Because of its popularity other cities across the world also hold their own Oktoberfest celebrations.Though it is unlikely most of us will get to travel to Germany to celebrate the original Oktoberfest fair, you can research places in your local area that might be planning a celebration of their own. If you live in or near Grand Rapids, Michigan, here are a few places you might like to visit during their Oktoberfest celebrations.
The best place to partake in the events of Oktoberfest is Grand Rapids Brewing Company located at 3689 28th Street in Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids Brewing Company runs their annual Oktoberfest menu starting on September 18th. Their menu is included in this article and is available from 4 PM to close daily. This menu will run for 4 weeks in celebration of Oktoberfest. Grand Rapids Brewing Company also brews an Oktoberfest beer that is available during this time frame. They offer a commemorative pint glass for $5 (filled with beer) and that glass can be refilled for $3 during the Oktoberfest celebration and the glass is yours to take home.
Grand Rapids Brewing Company: Oktoberfest Menu
German Sausage Plate- Two onion bratwurst paired with a smoked German sausage. Grilled and served on top of home made sauerkraut. Served with creamed spinach and carrot mashed potatoes for $12.95.
Rhine Valley Onion Beef- Thinly sliced sirloin strips sautéed with garlic, onions, fresh herbs, lemon peel, beef stock, bell peppers, and butter. Served over spatzle (similar to noodles) for $12.95.
Black Forest Fried Chicken- Crispy fried chicken breasts topped with mushroom cream sauce. Served with a creamed spinach and carrot mashed potatoes for $11.95.
Wiener schnitzel- Two sirloin medallions breaded and sautéed in butter, lemon juice and fresh herbs. Served with creamed spinach and carrot mashed potatoes for $12.95.
