Many people like to add some plants to their aquarium and even fish bowl of their goldfish to make it look more pleasing to the eye, however plants can also provide oxygen, food and shelter for a goldfish and so they can potentially like them too.You have probably noticed that there are plastic plants that you can add to a fish bowl. These kinds of plants will in no way offer your goldfish food, something that you feed them anyway, and of course will not offer oxygen to them as well. Again though your goldfish is getting oxygen already, one thing that they do offer is shelter for your fish and they will like that. Often people will choose plastic plants over real ones if their fish bowl is relatively new, because real plants are harder to grow in aquariums and fish bowls that have not had enough time to build up a supplement of nutrient materials. If you are having this problem you will likely have better luck after having your fish bowl for six months.
Whether you are waiting to be able to grow real plants for your goldfish or are already able to you have several options even if you have a new fish bowl. Plants that have heavy rootstocks will be able to likely grow in a new fish bowl, these include Aponogeton, swordplants and the water sprite. The Aponogeton will thrive in almost any normal aquarium or fish bowl water. They are able to tolerate water temperatures as low as 60 degrees. When choosing which species of swordplant that you want to plant in your new fish bowl for your goldfish you will want to make sure that it will do well in a new fish bowl. The sword plant E. osiris will grow well in both a new and old fish bowl, because of the heavy rootstock that it has. Thirdly the water sprite plant grows very well and very fast in a new fish bowl. Both the E. osiris and the water sprite plant will be able to grow in temperatures above 68 degrees.
Whether you are wanting to just add some added shelter for your goldfish or are in the process of decorating their fish bowl or aquarium and would like to add some plants for decor as you can see you have several different choices. Plants in a fish bowl can be nice for both you and your goldfish.
