Much has been made about "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne who wrote the book after studying a lot of old books written on the so-called "Law of Attraction". Even a movie has been made based on her book. It is touted as a "new age self-help" book, even on Amazon. It received world-wide notoriety, thanks to Oprah Winfrey as she invited author after author to explore this so-called "new" thing. As a Christian, I know there is nothing new about "The Secret." This is simply smart marketing. Anyone who has studied the Bible and knows Jesus Christ as Personal Savior can take you back to the book of Genesis to prove it is not new!

Let's explore some of the teachings of these new age teachers in this and other new age books.

We are supposed to go through our day affirming that "God is in everything I see."

Really? So the evil in this world that we see displayed so prominently in our media -- God is in that? The human trafficking in Thailand of girls as young as five years old -- God is in that? Not the God I know!

We are told to repeat the affirmation "I am the light of the world."

So Jesus was a liar when He said He was the light of the world in John 8:12? Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."

We are to say and believe "My salvation comes from me."

So the death on the cross of Jesus Christ was just some big hoax by God?

There is no such thing as sin. There is no guilt in you. Your calling is to devote yourself to the denial of guilt.

That is not what I John 1:8-10 says: "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

(OR) Romans 3:22-25 "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood."

Takeaways
  • this blasphemous doctrine is that it is being promoted by Oprah Winfrey who has a large platform.
  • The same Oprah that loved Jesus from youth and wanted to be a missionary for Him.
  • Genesis 3 shows us the beginning of the "New Age"

Thanks for qriting this article. I enjoyed reading it. I always wanted to read the secret but I had no idea that it had this type of non-sense in it. I thought it was the type of book I could use that could mesh with my religion not tell us we are all our own gods. Well where does God play into this. Thank you for the book review.

Thank you very much, Cynthia! I think Oprah has done much damage to the cause of Christ, and I'd like people to be aware.

Hi April, I've said for several years now that it is going to be SO very easy for the world church to be established. There is so much foolishness like this book in the mainstream today. It's like people want permission to continue on living just on the edge of what God and Christ has commanded of us. Salvation is so very easily given but made by humans as something too hard to take.

Thanks, Shawn. Must not have impressed you much if you're indifferent about it. it flat out made me angry! Thanks for the compliment!

Wow! I out did myself, Cathie? I was not in competition with myself, at least not that I'm aware of. (grin) I'm glad you found value in it, and stopped to comment!

I hope you had a blessed Resurrection Day, Katlyn. Yes, even though the Bible is not "hyped", it IS still the #1 selling book in the world. There's hope yet!

I've read this book, and right now, all I can say is that I'm indifferent about it, but I'd never recommend that someone DIDN'T read it because I did enjoy reading it. GREAT POST!

It's sad some will follow a hyped up book, but not the word of God. I'd write more about just how great this is, but I'm about to fall asleep and can't think lol Thank you for sharing your God-given talent and may you have a blessed Easter.
