I enjoy trying out new restaurants wherever I go. You can find some really cool places all over the world wherever you go. I get bored of going to the same old family style restaurants all the time. One restaurant that we went to when we were in Michigan really changed things up for eating out in style! The restaurant is called the Traveler's Club International Restaurant and Tuba Museum. They are located at 2138 Hamilton Road in Okemos, Michigan. This is definitely not your every day average restaurant. Just seeing what the outside of the building looked liked, I knew it was going to be warm and inviting. It was an older brick building, with bright red doors for the entrance.
When we first walked in we were amazed by all of the tubas that were hanging on the wall. I expected there to be a few, but not as many as there were. The hostess told us that there were over 60 different kinds of Tubas and other related horn instruments on the wall. Then in between all of that, they were also different roads maps and African masks also for decorations.
So as the hostess sat us she set a giant book in front of each of us! I must have given her a funny look because she smiled and said that is the menu. I opened it up and found out that it was 22 pages long. Now that wasn't all food. It also included a history of the business and descriptions of the different kinds of tubas and horns on the walls.
The waitress then came back and told us the specials. So we asked her what was good and she made some suggestions to us on what she liked and what was popular. She told us that the restaurant was known for its amazing International food. Then she said every month, they feature a different area and run specials and sampler platters from that area. She also said that people drive from all over the United States to eat here because of that.
She also gave us a brief history of the building telling us that once it used to be a hardware store long ago. Then they turned it into a retro new age 50 seat ice cream parlor type of vibe. She went on to tell us that this is the one and only International Restaurant and Tuba Museum.
