Museums to Visit in Eugene, Oregon

As the weather gets wetter here in the Pacific Northwest, it is a great time of year to visit some of our local museums. With a great variety of history, art, children’s activities and other interesting museums to visit, you’ll not only spend a lovely afternoon - but learn something new to boot!

The newly renovated Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art is now reopened on the University of Oregon Campus. The museum features some wonderful modern art exhibits, as well as a variety of other art to peruse and enjoy. The hours are Thursday through Sunday, Noon-5pm and there is a suggested donation of $3.00 per visitor. If you’re interested in learning a bit about Lane County and Eugene area history, then the place to go is the Lane CountyHistorical Museum. This museum is located at 740 West 13th Avenue as part of the Fair Grounds property. Admission for adults is $2.00, Seniors (60+) is $1.00 and Children ages 3-17 are admitted for $.75. If you join and become a member, then the admission is free. This museum features some wonderful exhibits of artifacts and historical information from years past. For more history, the Shelton-McMurphy-Johnson House is a Victorian house museum at the base of Skinner’s Butte. Tucked on a hill, overlooked downtown Eugene at 303 Willamette, tours of the house are available year-round. You can also hold events at the Shelton-McMurphy-Johnson House for 50 or less. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 1pm, or Saturday and Sunday 1-4 pm, or by appointment. Admission is $5 per person, children under 12 are admitted for $2.
