Light-hearted look at the occupational hazards of being a freelance writer, which many of us freelance writers face each day as we create words or beauty or drivel as the case may be to bring in the money to support our families and pay the bills.

As I come upon my first year anniversary as a freelance writer, I have learned of many of these occupational hazards of being a freelance writer firsthand. Those of you just embarking on the trail I will share some of those painful lessons, forearmed is fore warned as they say, and for the veterans I so empathize with you.

The first occupational hazard of being a freelance writer there never tends to be enough time in the day to write, rate and comment on all the articles you need to. It is hard to sit in front of a computer on a daily basis and experiencing brain drain after the fourth or fifth day of heavy writing. Brain drain occurs from writing too much on a reoccurring daily basis and it is surely an occupational hazard of being a freelance writer.

The second occupational hazard of being a freelance writer is the aches, which begins in your fingertips and travels up your wrists to your entire arm. Prolonged use will give you the feeling of carpal tunnel syndrome, so it is wise to type for an hour and then comment, promote or get up off your butt and do some housework. Carpal tunnel syndrome is positively an occupational hazard of being a freelance writer.

The third occupational hazard of being a freelance writer is that you know you must create in order to get paid so you often turn to topics you would not ordinary be interested in, but you need the content so you learn. You learn write in two different styles for the search engines as well as print magazines, the continuous education and retraining itself is an occupational hazard of being a freelance writer.
