The art style that is known as abstract drawing refers to a truly vast spectrum of different types and styles of art. One thing that can be shared among all the different styles is the way they are tied into the picture itself. The ability to make a piece that is genuinely filled with a lot behind it and have it stand out from other art pieces is a true talent. The following are things that are personally taken into consideration whenever I begin to start something abstract. Things like the shape and the size of the object being drawn, how the different objects are going to flow together, and how using different colors can really make a piece stand out well.
When it comes to the shape or the size of the drawing, in an abstract piece it could be any of or a combination of about everything. When using smaller objects and small detail you can really fit in many things into a picture or single object to make an elaborate detailed idea. The object of abstract art is to make the image you are depicting different or extra out of the ordinary.
In the first picture, I began with no intent on a set object. I started with a scaly figure in the bottom that with lots of small detail and some experimentation with the shape of the huge mouth. After the addition of some vine like detail and jagged teeth, the figure of a creepy abstract monster was created. The idea to use small detail in this picture was really a key point to getting it to bring out the character's body. Usually the smallest details are added in the end, but for this picture they were developed as I went on.
Also, whenever it comes to the shape and the size of what you are drawing, you want to consider on how to tie in opposite sized objects. In abstract art especially, different sized objects can be used to bring out the full feeling to the picture. Take into mind that since the drawing is an abstract piece, nothing really has to level out or be congruent in any way, it's just the technique that is used to bring the whole piece together that is the important part.
