"What exactly is 'Christianity'," some people of today may ask. That is a very good question. Some say it is a belief, a lifestyle, a denomination.

Some adults will say they are a Christian because they are a good person. They don't feel they need to attend Sunday Services as long as they live right. They are polite, respectful, considerate and abide by the laws of our governments.

Others consider themselves to be upright Christians because they attend Sunday Services. However, once they leave God's house, they return to their homes and their daily lives only to not give their faith another thought until the following Sunday.

Then, there are the Christians who do live their daily lives according to God's Word, the Holy Bible. They study and learn from the Bible with fellow members of their church and get together throughout the week in friendship.

*Karen had lived her life sporadically within and outside the church all her life. When she was younger, she was involved with a Youth Group at a local church with her best friends. The Pastor of the church at that time, was the father of one of those best friends. He was also the Pastor who had requested for Karen to either return her school 'Class Ring' or leave the church. She chose to leave the church as she figured a special ring signifying her youth years at her High School was not a significant deterrent to her faith. In her eyes, she did not leave God, she left a building.

In later years, after she had married, had children and then went through a separation resulting in relocating to another city, she had the desire to return to a church with her children. She felt her children needed to learn of God and Jesus.

After some thought, she decided on the little Chapel just up the road from their new home. At first, all seemed well. But, as time went on, she could tell her daughter was being snubbed and not accepted while Karen herself, even though she contributed during the Sunday fellowship time, didn't feel they quite fit into the tight little family.

As a newcomer to the south from Boston I have never encountered such mean spirited, Bible reading unChrist like behavior. Good article.

Very well written and interesting-but it makes me incredibly sad that Christians/churches do such a bad job of reaching out to people. I'm so sorry that "Karen" has had this experience-there are good churches and wonderful Christians-I hope she will keep trying-and most of all not give up on Jesus.

This is a good wake-up call to all of us Christians to evaluate what we really believe and do we live according to Jesus' love and follow His example. Unfortunately, this is a problem in the church and it does confuse and turn away many people like Karen. As long as she keeps seeking God, He will be near her and lead her to find real friendship and fellowship in a good church community. People will fail sometimes us, but God never will.

You have done an excellent job highlighting some of the issues I have with people who call themselves Christian, but do not act as a Christian aught to. I have no problem with Christians who are truly spiritual beings intune with their beliefs in Christ.

Joy; Thank you so much for your very inspiring thoughts and comments! Your thoughts definitely lifted my spirits about this particular submission. I ended up worried that it be a bit too personal. I am so grateful that it was taken in the way it was. And, just so you know, *Karen is persevering in her faith in God and the church. She knows in her mind and heart that God is with her and is helping her find her way as well as helping find out her true purpose in her life. :-) Thank you again for your kind and heartfelt words. God Bless, Tema

It is true that many churches and the people who attend really don't live out the teachings of Jesus. It is sad and shameful, but it does happen. I hope this woman and her children will not give up on the church or on God but will continue to search for that place that does exhibit the Love of God. This is well written and should be read by all Christians, just so we can be reminded of how important it is live according to the teachings of Jesus. We are His arms, legs, and mouth. What we say and do really does matter and it impacts the lives of those who are searching for answers. Bless you!
