Your computer, no matter what operating system you have on it is capable of so much. However after a couple of years of use it must seem to go slower and slower. There are many reasons for this, however in this article I would like to discuss some very common reasons. What manufacturers do not want you to know is your computer is likely three times faster than you actually need for usual use. All the advertisements out there place so much emphasis on faster processor speeds, faster memory size and the coveted larger hard drive space. However the simple truth of the matter is for common use you can get by on so much less.

In a seemingly guerrilla promotion attempt, almost every application you load on your computer feels like it should start when your computer is started. Lets examine for a moment a few of these. Its not enough that you have an office program on your computer, you also have to have a fast start option for your office package. Instant Message Programs, Printers, Weather Programs, Toolbar Add Ons, Screensaver helpers and so many more. There are only a few of these programs that are actually needed. The memory on your computer could be imagined as a pie. Each program you open eats a small sliver of that pie. Now imagine when you start your computer you have ¼ of the pie used by your operating system. If you have many programs opening at start up your cutting off your valuable memory reserve and you may only have a few slices left.

Ok, enough with the bad analogy. The point I am making is when your overtaxing your system right out of the start gate, how well do you think it will perform? Since Windows XP came on the map of operating systems you now not only have to contend with Startup Programs, you now also have System Services. Some savvy applications can install as a System Service instead of a Startup Program. Either way chances are they are bogging down the performance of your computer.
