I don't think people are born gay. I think it's a combination of nature and nurture. I think you are a product of your environment. I think a person grows up and makes choices and develops feelings and chooses who they are attracted to. I also feel that it really truly does NOT matter what the reason is why a person is gay, whether they are born gay or not. I don't think you need to believe that gay people are born gay to accept them and vice versa. What matters is that gay people should be accepted and given exactly the same rights that straight people have. I don't even understand why homosexuality is an issue at all. What is so wrong with loving someone just because they happen to be the same sex as you. Isn't life all about love. Love and true love is the same between straight people or gay people. The documentary Freeheld won an Oscar yesterday for the best short documentary. It is about Lieutenant Laurel of New Jersey who is dying and wants to leave her pension to her partner but the law doesn't allow her to do so because they are not husband and wife. I haven't seen the documentary but it makes me so sad and angry that gay people don't have the same rights as straight people. We are all human beings and should have the same rights.

My first same-sex crush was in kindergarten, yet I went to a private Christian school and all the adults I knew were the conservative (homophobic) types, including my parents, friends' parents, parents' friends, etc. We had no TV and no internet (by my parents' choice), so that couldn't have been an influence. I had never met any gay people, and had only heard of homosexuality in a negative light. I find it difficult to believe my sexual orientation was "nurtured" into existence any more than yours was. I suspect that if you were raised in an environment where you were constantly pressured to be gay, that would not make you gay. It would just make it harder for you to accept your heterosexuality because you would feel like a freak.
