Birthday parties are great and usually enjoyable. Throwing a party for a 3- or 4-year-old can prove to be challenging. Here are some tips for throwing the birthday bash that may help.

If possible, have the party somewhere fun. One example that would work great is Chucky Cheese but for those of us on a low budget, like me, the park can be just a much fun. I suggest this because for one thing 3 and four years olds are nearly incapable of sitting still. They want to run around and have fun.

They are not likely to actually sit calmly and eat their cake neatly. Most likely, there will be cake and juice spilled all over. This is why throwing a party at your home could be a pain in the butt. Who wants to spend hours cleaning birthday cake out of carpets after a busy day?

Attendee's should be children around the same age. Children at this age can still be over stimulated so I would advise maybe 5 to 6 three and four year old guest, for their sanity and yours!

Kids this age do not like to share so make sure you have some cool party favors. Sunglasses, candy, stickers, and bubbles are great inexpensive party favors they are sure to love. Children also love anything that makes noise so ka-zoos can be a neat idea as well, although the other parents might not love them as much once they get home!

If you are inviting kids from your child's preschool class make sure to have extra party favors just in case extra siblings tag along.

Keep in mind some children this age still takes naps so try to avoid naptime, which is usually between 12 pm to four in the afternoon. This will also make it easier because then you won't have cranky children on your hands. My daughter is miserable when she misses her nap. Keep the party short as well. Usually two-hour's is a good amount of time.

As far as party games go, children of this age group with probably enjoy games such as red rover and musical chairs. Piñata's are great as well, you could even fill it will popcorn, toothbrushes, and trail sized toothpaste as an alternative to all that sugar filled candy. The other parents will be greatly appreciative.
