Is Barack Obama Being Over-scrutinized when it Comes to Racial Issues in and Around His Campaign?

Is Barack Obama being over-scrutinized when it comes to his supporters' racial views? Is the media over-analyzing and artificially inflating the importance of race and ethnicity in and around Obama's campaign as we draw nearer to November? Are mainstream Americans finally "over" the idea of political correctness just in the nick of time to fling the door of racial discourse wide open in Barack Obama's face?

The answer to all of these questions is an undeniable yes.

In fact, it's incredible that the race "issue" didn't blow up sooner, on an even larger scale. It took some crazy, over-the-top comments by Obama supporter Reverend Jeremiah Wright to finally bring race to the forefront of the 2008 presidential race in a mainstream sense.

It's surprising that it took such a dramatic event to highlight the "race thing" simply because Barack Obama is the first non-white presidential candidate to be legitimized by our nation's political-financial-media machine. The legitimacy of that old, ineffective machine is beside the point--or maybe it makes the point that much more important. It's basically the exact same fatally flawed two-party electoral system that was in place back when white people were allowed to own black people, give or take a couple hundred years of cumbersome "tweaks" and wholesale dry rot.

In short, Barack Obama is a miracle. And (despite the fact that we still, for the most part, claim to be a God-fearing and God-loving country) most Americans don't actually like miracles very much. In fact, they fear them just as much as they fear all other forms of the unknown, the unexpected and the abnormal.

MSN's homepage early the morning of Easter Sunday added fuel to the fire by featuring an article about American clergy "preparing" for the Obama-caused "unpatrolled intersection of race and religion" as if it were a war or a plague.

Other websites covered Barack Obama's recent Philadelphia speech (a speech intended to diffuse the racial "issues" he never asked for) with alarmist, race-baiting headlines like "America's New Racial Reality: White Minority Status".

Jeremiah Wright has been the Pastor of that church for how long. I'm pretty sure white people have attended at some point. He hasn't been preaching in a black vacuum. Yes some of his remarks are racist and divisive but the truth is that there are people on both sides of the color lines who have some issues with people from the other side. It's high time we got it out in the open instead of trying to act like Christopher Robin and Pooh with The everything's alright really spiel. Obviously it's not alright. A society that gives rise to a man like Jeremiah Wright with that much vitriol or with some of the White hate mongers who are out there, is not alright.

I think Obama transcends race. When I look at him, he is not black or white... or even purple for that matter. He is human... a harbinger of what future Americans will look and act like.

This article is well written but I'm afraid I have to disagree. Every presidential candidate is over-scrutinized, Obama not more so. Matter of fact, I think he has gotten a fairly easy ride so far. When the GOP gets their teeth in to him....then look out!

press4truth - Also the idea that Wright is racist is absolute BS. He has white friends, he has married white couples, so on and so forth. The denomination he is a member of is over 90% white.

press4truth - you are racist. stop denying it. you were looking for any excuse not to vote for the best candidate (Obama) because he's black. Wright gave you that excuse but it is not a real issue, it is media created BS. the idea that Obama should disown his pastor is patently ridiculous. Furthermore the idea that Wright is anti-American is also ridiculous. Did you know that Wright was a MARINE who has more military experience than all of the Bush admin. combined? It's not anti-American to question your country's foreign policy. It's the most patriotic thing you can do, in fact. America is ready to leave small minded people like you behind.

I think some White Americans here in United States are afraid that Obama could be a good thing for America, and that he just might show up all the previous so called master minds that thought they knew so much, that led us "United states" in this hole we are in today. If they give the man a chance he might just be able to bring the America back up. Out of all the Presidents we have had, not one was perfect, no one is perfect. What will it hurt if Obama did become president, and didn't turn out to be all good, It still wouldn't compare to all the presidents we have had over the many years, of having all White American presidents. It is time for a change, let an African American have a chance at it, and maybe something good can come out of it all. There is a lot of African Americans with the knowledge to run a country. Some might not think so, That's because they do not want to give recognition of it. Just like there are a lot of African American inventors, that have not been g

The media is the biggest to blame for all of this Wright attention, if it was such a big deal, why didnt they report it when it FIRST came out and not when Obama has a big lead. There is fear of Obama because he is different, fear because he can speak his mind on real issues, fear because he is African American, and for the people who are not afraid of change do not give up! Great Article Trent!

Barack Obama's recent March 18 speech on race relations in America was one of the boldest and most relevant things to come from an American politician in years. Take a listen to my satire, in which I condensed a 40 minute speech down to 2. Mr. Obama urges a revolution on Washington and says the current administration should be taken to prison. I would love to see people's reactions. A little satire never hurt anyone!
