What's more romantic than a steak dinner? It's definitely the most popular choice for anniversary dinners, but what if you're trying to lead a healthy lifestyle? Does a steak dinner, from a typical steakhouse, fit into your daily amount calories? This romantic meal can sometimes pack as many as 1000 calories. That doesn't mean you have to give up this special meal though. Instead, why not make a healthy steak dinner at home? In this article, I'll teach you several tips on how to make a romantic and healthy steak dinner at home.

The first step to preparing a healthy steak dinner is to choose a healthy cut of meat. Personally, I suggest choosing sirloin steaks. Sirloin is very low-fat, but still has great flavor. You also need to remember that a serving is 4 ounces. This is roughly the size of a deck of cards. If you do want to splurge for a special occasion, an 8 ounce sirloin only has 420 calories.

Of course what would a healthy steak dinner be without a baked potato? Potatoes are extremely healthy. Unfortunately, the toppings can be loaded with fat and calories. There are a couple great substitutes available though. For example, instead of using full-fat sour cream, choose a low-fat version. If you like butter on your baked potato, why not use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray instead? This product has very few calories when used as a topping. Real butter on the other hand has 100 calories per tablespoon. Whatever you do though, do not use margarine. Margarine contains trans-fats, which are not healthy. Feel free to add as many chives as you like. Just make sure that your partner also eats chives or this healthy steak dinner may ruin the rest of your romantic evening.

In place of the high-fat rolls that are typically served with a steak dinner, why not choose a healthy substitute? For example, Pillsbury makes wonderful whole wheat rolls that are found in the freezer section. They're not only healthy, but they taste great as well. Plus, this allows you to fix only two servings. This ensures that you don't eat more rolls than you should.

Takeaways
  • Sirloin is very low in fat and calories.
  • Choose low-fat toppings for your baked potatoes.
  • Make dark chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.
