When returning home after a long day at work, the bedroom is usually the first room you retreat to. The average person will spend around 70 to 80 percent of their time at home in the bedroom. In order to appreciate all that the room has to offer, it is important that the design of the room complements your personality. After all, you will be the one who has to deal with the results afterwards. The color scheme of the room is one of the most important choices that determines the overall effect of the room.

When decorating a room, it is beneficial to the landscape of the room if you pick three complimentary colors. You may also want to invest in a color wheel. The device will help you determine which colors are complimentary shades. When looking at the color wheel, you will see that the tool is divided down the middle to separate the warm colors from the cool shades. Hues such as red, orange, and yellow are all considered to be a warm group of shades, where as purple, blue, and green are cool shades. Pick a color that will match your personality. A theme may help in the color process. After choosing a color, make a design book for the room. Pin fabrics, ribbons, magazine clippings, and small objects to help you brainstorm ideas. When you go shopping, bring the idea book with you. It will help you purchase the perfect items for the room if you are able to visualize the color format and the fabrics.

If you are having difficulty choosing a color scheme, look to Mother Nature for help. The colors from the outdoors will help to inspire you in your color selections. If a dusty pink and red sunset brings you comfort and makes you feel at ease, then use this color scheme in your bedroom. Any colors that are within the red and pink color spectrum will compliment one another. Also, pale yellow or lemon meringue hues will go well with red and pink shades. If red is the main color of the room, do not put it on the walls. Opt for a more neutral color, such as one from the yellow spectrum, for the wall. It will help the red hues stand out from every corner of the room.
