The Century of the Self - a Frank Review
The Century of the Self is a documentary by Adam Curtis. It takes a
hard factual look at the Freud family and their influence on the world
from the days of Sigmund Freud till today. It explores the history of
the mass consumer society in first world nations across the world.
Who, how, and in who's interest.
A hard inside look into Sigmund Freud's family is the center piece of
this incredible documentary of social engineering. The main focus is
on Sigmund Freud the father of psychoanalysis, with staring roles by
Edward Bernays the creator of pubic relations and advertising, and
Anna Freud; Sigmund's daughter.
Sigmund's work into the machinery of the mind changed the world for
better or worse in developing a technique to explore the subconscious
mind. Sadly his work was put to devious pursuits such as political
spin and marketing ploys designed to keep separating you from your
hard earned income.
In other words this documentary explains how psychology was used to
dupe the first world into following the desires and wishes of the
government and big business and we as a species fell for it
completely. By use of scientific methods the leaders of this world
have been able to guide us into areas that as a people we probably
would never have went without this underhanded manipulation.
Why would they do this your probably asking. there is no simple answer
to that question. Some in the governments thought this was the only
way to insure that Democracy flourished while other types of
government failed around it. Some in big business seen in these
methods a way to insure their future fortunes would not dry up and
fade away. others I suspect wanted a way to control the minds and
emotions of the people. But at the root of it I suspect all did it
because of fear and because they could get away with it. People by and
by are a passive lot as long as the necessities are provided to them,
and television is the greatest tranquilizer that has even been given
to the people of the world.
