How to Create Flower Magnets For Kids: Easy Flower Magnet for All Ages
2 - 18-inch Chenille Stems, lighter and darker hue of the same color. Ex: Baby blue and navy blue, or red and pink.
1 - Fridge Magnet, at least 3/4 inch big
1 - Flat Bead or Button, at least 1 1/2 inches big, and always bigger than the magnet.
1 - Pair Scissors
1 - Bottle Craft Glue
Instructions:
1. Have children carefully cut one stem into four equal pieces. Then cut the second stem into six equal pieces. If the children are very young, an adult should prepare and cut the stems before beginning the craft.
2. Using their fingers, children should bend chenille piece around their hand of fingers, making a loop. The two ends of the chenille piece should then be twisted together to create a petal shaped loop. Repeat looping with remaining nine chenille pieces.
3. Take a flat button or bead, and place it on the table face down. Using craft glue, have children glue the smaller petals, one by one, evenly around the bead. Make sure they glue the petal with the twisted ends on the bead, and the fat end sticking out. Then have them glue the bigger petals around the button. Let Dry.
4. If the chenille stem ends are sticking up, have children use a notebook or binder, and place it over the flower. Tell kids to apply a little pressure to help smoosh the ends down. Place magnet on the middle of the bead. Glue it to the back, over the petals. Let dry.
5. Place on fridge or other magnetic surface to decorate and hold up papers.
For Older Kids:
Have the children use assorted beads to string onto the chenille stems. Remind them to leave a little room at each end, so the stem can be twisted into a flower petal loop. Check that the magnet used is strong enough to bear the extra weight of the beads. Then finish the project just like you would with younger children.
