When my life was in shambles, and I felt hopeless, I prayed for a miracle. I prayed for my life to have purpose again, I prayed for positive changes. I had no idea that my prayers would be granted the next day.

A miracle indeed awaited me outside, a puppy who needed not only a home, but also a mother. His mommy had been hit by a car, and she died. His eyes were not yet open, and without my help, he wouldn't make it.

I feed the little guy with a baby bottle, and I loved him. I had purpose, a new life that couldn't survive without my assistance. It sounds weird to some people, that I felt I had purpose again thanks to my puppy.

I developed such a strong bond with my puppy, Fritz during the first few weeks of his life. I would have never thought a dog could have such an impact on my life. As I have no children, Fritz filled a slight void in my life. Additionally I have a best friend for life in Fritz. He is the most loyal and protective dog. When my beagle, Princey will desert me for a visitor, without a second thought, Fritz would not leave my side for anyone. Fritz is like my shadow, he must be near me always. He has serious separation anxiety when we are apart, it is so severe he must stay with my mother while I am at work. Yes, I have a doggy babysitter. When I drop the boys off at her house, Fritz sits with his head on a window sill and moans for an hour, at least. Once she made a video of his 'performance' for me, it was very heart breaking to watch.

Fritz is like my baby, he is my best friend, he gave my life meaning again. I needed him just as much as he needed me. My mother has often commented that " He's a dog, if you need a baby, have one!" Her other famous line is that "You can not live for a dog!" I love to say "He lives to please me, why can't I love my dog like he is my child?"

My dog means the world to me. With the miracle of his life, I found the simple pleasure of life again. Sharing my life with my dogs has reminded me that so much happiness and fulfillment are available at home, with wagging tails. Charles Schultz certainly said it best! "Happiness is a warm puppy."
