Seriously folks, think about it. You spend two straight days in front of a television screen, watching as the NFL commissioner sheepishly announces a player's name every 15 minutes. How pathetic. Why does it even take a team 15 minutes on day 1 of the draft to pick a player? It isn't like the team doesn't already know who its going to draft. NFL teams do draft coverage throughout the entire year and have several people on their staff who are scouts, whose sole job it is, is to scout and rate college players.

Think about it this way, does a team's first round pick even matter? Can you even name the top 5 picks from last year's NFL draft? I follow football closer than the average fan and I know I can't do it. How many top 5 football players ever become stars? The answer is very few. Some Top 5 picks become mediocre players, others become dropouts, and a select few are super stars.

As a Jets fan, I was so happy when the Jets traded two first round picks to move up to #3 overall and select DT Dwayne Robertson. Who you ask? You probably don't even know who he is anymore. He's just an average DT who likely will never be a Pro Bowl player. For every great Top 5 pick, there is a huge bust like Ryan Leaf or Akili Smith.

Only in the NFL can you have a superstar player in the sixth round like Tom Brady. How is it possible that all of these so called experts on 32 NFL teams passed over Tom Brady until the 6th round?

Another gripe I have is with Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. The stuff that he says is completely useless. He justs spits out facts about a player's age, weight, height, how high they jump and how fast they run. How is any of that even helpful? Many of the best players in the NFL aren't the fastest or strongest and lack some height. Basically, the NFL draft is a crap shoot, as judged by the draft's past history. You can still get a great player after the second round and the amount of money you have to commit to these first round players who never become super stars is ridiculous.
