The New York Islanders entered the National Hockey League in 1972. Since joining the league the Islanders have had many great memories including winning four straight Stanley Cup Championships and 19 straight playoff series. Here is a look at the ten greatest moments in franchise history.October 12, 1972. The New York Islander win their first game in franchise history when they defeat the Los Angeles Kings 3-2.
April 11, 1975. The New York Islanders win their first Playoff series when they defeat their arch rivals the New York Rangers 2 game to 1in the first round of the playoffs. The Islanders win the game 4-3 when J.P. Parise scores just 11 seconds into overtime.
April 26, 1975. The Islanders become just the second team in NHL history to win a playoff series after trailing 3 games to 0. The Islanders win the seventh and decisive game 1-0 on a goal by Ed Westfall.
May 24, 1980. The New York Islanders win their first Stanley Cup Championship when they defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4. Bobby Nystrom scores the winning goal in overtime to give the Islanders the win.
May 21, 1981. The Islanders win their second consecutive Stanley Cup Championship when they defeat the Minnesota North Stars 4 games to 1 in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Islanders win the decisive game 5 by a score of 5-1.
February 20, 1982. The Islander set an NHL record by winning their 15th consecutive game when they defeat the Colorado Rockies 3-2. The game is tied at 2 when John Tonelli scores with 47 seconds left in the third period to give the Islanders the win.
May 16, 1982. The Islanders win their third consecutive Stanley Cup Championship when they sweep the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 in the finals. They win game four 3-1.
May 17, 1983. The Islanders sweep the upstart Edmonton Oilers in four games to win their 4th consecutive Stanley Cup. They win game four by a score of 4-2.
April 18, 1987. The Islanders defeat the Washington Capitals in seven games to win the Patrick Division semifinals. The Islanders win game seven 4-3 when Pat LaFontaine scores in the quadruple overtime. At the time it is the 5th longest game in NHL history.
