Keeping the clothes that your baby grew out of for the next baby is a great way to save money the next time you have a baby. However if the baby clothes are not properly stored they will not be as nice as the day that you put them into storage. Here are some tips for storing baby clothes for the next time that you have a baby.

Never store anything that is soiled, all of the baby clothes that you store away should be cleaned. As long as the clothes that you are storing are clean you're set to go. It is important, especially if you are pressed for the amount storage space that you have, to sort your baby clothes and only store the ones that you know you will be using for the next baby. There is no point in storing baby clothes that you didn't like for your baby, and there is no point in storing clothes that you know you would not use for another baby. Any pieces that you don't feel will be used for the next baby can be donated.

Choosing the method of storage is very important to ensure that the baby clothes will be well protected. Although you can use cardboard boxes and tape up the sizes they will not be the kind of protection that a plastic bin would be. By keeping your baby closes stored in a waterproof bin you can rest assure that if you leave them in your basement and there is flood that they will no be damaged. If you will be using cardboard boxes it is a good idea to line the box with garbage bags and for added protection to keep the clothes in bags as well. Flooding is not the only thing that you will have to be concerned about, no matter where the stored baby clothes are, whether it be in a basement, attic, garage, etc., you will have to worry about critters. Plastic will keep out mice better than cardboard will.

Sort the baby clothes into sizes so you can pull out everything that is size newborn and not things that are size eighteen months at the same time. Also it helps to fold the clothes, when you store them as well. When the time does come to pull the baby clothes out of storage it is important to wash them before putting them on your new baby.

Great tips! I just went through my daughter's winter clothes and brought out her summer clothes the other day. I don't know if we will have another child, but I don't want to part with all of her clothes just in case.

Well done. We aren't sure if there will be another baby yet or not but we are saving everything just in case and it is a real chore! Packing by size makes a ton of sense. Thanks.
