After You're Gone

I was there when you were born, I watched as you struggled to survive,

I looked on helplessly as your mother refused to look after you,

I made the decision then and there that you would be mine.

Every day of my life you were there for me when I needed you,

When I was down you would bring light into my heart,

Just one kiss from you made all my troubles fade away,

One look into your eyes and everything would be ok.

When I left you alone with no explanation or reason,

You still remained loyal and loving, waiting for my return,

Then I held you in my arms and everything was alright again.

I was there when you became ill. I watched helplessly as you got ever worse,

Even in your painful and delicate state, you loved me and tried to make me feel better.

I was there the night before you left. That night that was the worst I've ever had.

I couldn't be there when you had to leave, I couldn't hold you in my arms.

Please forgive me but I couldn't watch you go, I am not a strong enough person.

I just wish that you knew what you meant to me,

I still have a place for you in my heart,

I loved you more than I loved anything or anyone, and now you're gone.

I look at your picture everyday and I still feel the pain I felt that night.

Nothing can ever replace you, the way you lit up my life.

I just want you to know what you meant to me, I wish I could tell you how I feel,

But you're gone now and only a memory.

The most beautiful and most painful memory I have.
