Out of all of the television Star Trek series: The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, The Original Series, and Enterprise , The Next Generation has to be my favorite. Not only did this series resurrect a sometimes pulled-off-the-air series from the 1960's (although there were some episodes shown as re-runs), The Next Generation was an answer for Trekkies who had long awaited the debut and continuation of the Star Trek saga. The show also helped introduce another generation to the Star Trek series.

The Next Generation (TNG) had so many memorable and endearing characters, it was almost impossible not to like it! It opened people's eyes to the possibility that not all species who were not human acted much different then we, as people, did. In choosing this series as my pick for the best possible StarTrek series, I reflected upon the storylines, cast interactions and character developments. My favorite parts were:

* The interactions between Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander William T. Riker

* The growth of Lieutenant Commander Data to be more like a human

* The discovering of past relationships between Picard and Doctor Beverly Crusher, and Riker and Counselor Deanna Troi

* The periodic back-and-forth bantering between the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) crew and one of their worst enemies - the dreaded God-like being known as Q, and

* The discovery - by Q's doing, no less - of the worst enemy, the Borg.

When the series ended, many of the cast went on to pursue other acting ventures, but were also stars in many of the Star Trek movies. Captain Picard , along with other crew members are also frequent commentators on Star Trek series or show profiles, namely the special that was aired last year. While no longer on the air, The Next Generation is sometimes shown on the Spike cable channel.

As a writer who wrote for Star Trek: The Next Generation & Deep Space Nine, I really appreciate your love & admiration for the show. We all worked very hard on producing the series & sometimes I can't believe I contributed stories to such a landmark show. Classic TV like Star Trek is a precious legacy we should be all proud of as fans & Americans. As a small child I watched reruns of the old series in absolute awe - who knew I'd grow up to help write the new generation by writing for Next Generation & DS9. Thanks for the article!
