Jason Castro celebrated his birthday in style with his top 10 performance. This week was songs from the birth year, meaning that Jason had to choose a song from 1987. Jason's choice was to sing Sting's Fragile, which is not a very commonly known song. His choice of a lesser known song is an advantage for him, if he can tap into it and do it well.

He chose to go the route of having his guitar on stage and keeping it acoustic. Having never heard the Sting version, I was quite impressed. Castro chose to sing part of the song in Spanish and made it really work for him. He drew in the audience well, engaging them without overpowering the song. Castro has his own niche and doesn't often step outside of that box, which can help and hurt him in the end.

The judges, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, were pleased with his song choice. They felt that he was keeping true to himself, but hasn't done anything to make himself stand out. On the other hand, judge Simon Cowell was not as pleased. He feels that Jason has had a bad week and isn't taking his experience on Idol seriously. Cowell definitely had things to say about the performance that weren't flattering, but Castro took it well and understood were he was coming from.

Jason Castro could definitely be a front runner for the title of the next American Idol, but he has to watch out for the other men, such as David Archuletta. Archuletta has done consistently well and has a lot of fan support that Castro needs to work towards winning over.

If Jason Castro wants to be the next American Idol, he needs to step up his game. He needs to step out of his comfort zone and do something to get the people's attention. He did that with his choice of Leonard Cohen's, Hallelujah in the top 12, but he's faded since. Vocally, Jason Castro has what it takes to be the Idol, but he has to tap into what will get him the most votes if he wants to win.

Although I do agree with your article in general, you have to do a little more research to get things straight. Castro didn't choose to sing Sting's song in Spanish, Sting did so himself with 'Fragilidad', a Spanish version of 'Fragile'. Jason didn't perform Cohen's version of Hallelujah, but Jeff Beck's. Sting's song was a world hit, and not a 'lesser known song' as you state here..... Just thought I should mention this....
