So apparently, Michael Johns was born to be the lead singer in rock band Queen. His performance Tuesday night of Queen's "We Will Rock You" left Simon saying Johns' was the only memorable performance of the night.

I have to agree. From the first note, my feet were tapping and I had a huge grin on my face. And I'm not one to swoon merely because he looks pretty good and has an Aussie accent.

I've been a fan of Michael Johns for awhile, but I've been the first to say his performances in the top 24 haven't been stellar. It's hard not to like the guy with his accent from Down Under and his laid-back vibe. And he definitely has a voice. He just hadn't found his place since singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" during Hollywood week.

It's almost as if the challenging songs give him something to strive toward, and the easier songs he just kind of floats through. Regardless, he gave a stand-up, rockin' performance in the top 10 that should keep him on for another week. He seemed at home on the stage with the strobes and the crowd screaming.

His challenge will be maintaining that level of performance through the competition. He's competing against the teeny-bopper favorites David Archuleta and Kristy Lee Cook, as well as rocker sensation David Cook.

Michael also has to face a little scrutiny in that he, like Carly Smithson, previously had a record deal. Johns, known then as Michael Lee, was the frontman for a group with a record deal about five years ago.

My prediction, though, is he's safe another week.
