Part of what make the NHL so great is examining the trades teams make in the attempt to win the coveted Stanley Cup. Everyone, from the fans to the media enjoy voicing their opinion on the pros and cons of a trade. At times risking known quantities for prospects with the hopes of finding something better or bargaining away their future for the chance to win in the now. From time to time, a diamond can be found, but there are times when they only find a lump of coal. Here are top five worst trades that have taken place in the last thirty years.

5) June 2006 - The Florida Panthers traded Roberto Luongo, Lukas Krajicek, and a 6th round draft pick to the Vancouver Canucks for Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan Allen, and Alex Auld.
The trade of Luongo came after the 2005-06 season when he won at the time a career high 35 games with the Florida Panthers and had many speculating Luongo would be the cornerstone for the franchise as he was due to re-sign with the team, but then the trade occurred. The following year in Vancouver, Luongo won 47 games with the Canucks, becoming only the 20th goalie ever to break the 40 win barrier. In exchange, the Florida Panthers received Todd Bertuzzi, who is known by the casual fan as the player who severely injured Steve Moore in 2004 and was arrested and charged with an assault charge. The Panther had high hopes for Bertuzzi who average more than 70 points during the last four seasons in Vancouver. Instead, Bertuzzi played only seven games and scoring one goal before he had back spasms and ultimately season ending surgery.
