Day One will entail learning the "lay of the land" and making a good first impression to your new supervisor and coworkers.

Getting Started

Make sure that you are properly dressed for the position, professionally - a great assessment can be made by the person who knows you the best, a close friend or family member. Always go with conservative if you have any doubt with clear fingernail polish, and hair well groomed and pulled back from your face. Be sure to be relaxed, and prepared to listen by getting a good night's rest the night before, and a light breakfast in the morning.

Listen, listen, listen as you will be given a bevy of instructions as the new Administrative Assistant, and you will be expected to remember them all. How can you?

Make notes, make sure that when you put your purse down on your new desk the next step you make is to pick up a pen, and notepad. Start recording all the instructions you are being given. Write legibly as you will be referring to these notes often the first six weeks in your new position. Patiently, and attentively follow the coworker who has been assigned to show you the ropes as this person is your PPRR - primary public relations representative at your new company. If you are rude, then the word will spread like a California wild fire, but if you are polite and clever then this will get around too, and make your new role very pleasant during this "honeymoon" period. What is the "honeymoon period"?
