If you enjoy relaxing in the evening with a fragrant cup of chamomile tea, you may be doing more than simply soothing your soul. Chamomile tea has been shown to have some surprising health benefits. This is welcome news to the ears of those who enjoy the sweet, delicate taste of this herbal concoction. Here are some of the many chamomile tea health benefits:

Chamomile tea health benefits: It may strengthen the immune system

Historically, people have used chamomile tea to treat a variety of ailments ranging from the common cold to stomach viruses. It may turn out that century old wisdom regarding the benefits of chamomile tea was right on the mark. In 2005, a study appeared in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry which suggests that chamomile tea helps to boost the immune system. Although this study only involved fourteen people, the results were encouraging. When you combine these results with the fact that chamomile tea is natural and appears to have no toxic effects, it might be a potentially inexpensive insurance policy against colds and viruses. Chamomile tea appears to exert its antiviral and antibacterial effects through increasing levels of hippurate in the bloodstream which are thought to have antimicrobial activity.

Chamomile tea health benefits: It may help menstrual cramps

Drinking chamomile tea not only increases levels of hippurate, people who drink this herbal tea also have higher levels of an amino acid called glycine in their urine. This amino acid has been shown to be effective in reducing muscle spasms which may explain how it helps to relieve menstrual cramps in women.

Chamomile tea health benefits: It can help with relaxation and sleep

Chamomile tea has long been used to help relax the mind and help promote sleep. As it turns out, the same amino acid, glycine, which helps to soothe menstrual cramps also acts to relax the nerves and promote a mild sedation. This may explain why this tea is such an effective sleep aid.

Carmella, I love your doctor's open minded attitude towards herbs. I'm so glad your son is doing well. :-)

Continueing my story : ) He was shocked and amaized at how much he had healed, and even the opening was closing, which it was not doing at all 3 months ago! All I can say is, God make some great herbs, and we all need to learn that God's herbs are much better than man's drugs! Great article!

Excelent article Kristie! I have a great story to add to this. About 3 months ago our 19 year old autistic son was diagnosed with the worst case of erosive asophagitis the surgeon had ever seen! Our son was given Nexium, (I think that was it), and after reading the possible reactions to Nexium, we decided to look for alternatives. We found Chamomile to be a good one! That with pure raw honey from near us here in the rockie mountains, was our sons medicine for 3 months. Our family doctor was not in total agreeance with our treatment, but understood our fear of the drugs because of our sons allergies, and being non verbal. So he said, "I will go along with it, and if he is healing when we see his next ondoscopy, then I will praise you, but if it is not working, then you have to give him the Nexium". Our son had his second ondoscopy last Friday, and I took the beautiful photos of the MASIVE healing to our family doc, and said, "I'm waiting for my praise!) He was shocked and amaized at how
