Painted Canvas Pet Bowl Mat

Lately I have been seeing little place mats for pet food bowls at my local Pet Smart. While the store bought pet food bowl mats are cute, they are so easy to make yourself at home. You don’t have to be an artist or even know how to sew to make this easy craft project for your pet.

You can make this pet craft in a few hours. It is perfect for cats or dogs and very easy to personalize.

To Make a Painted Canvas Pet Bowl Mat You Will Need:

1 Yards oft Per primed Canvas
Acrylic paints
Polyurethane
Paint Brushes
Pencil
Painter’s Tape
Duct Tape or No Sew

Start by cutting your pet place mat out to size. I cut mine 14 inches by 20 inches. This is a little bit bigger than a normal dinner table place mat, but my two kitties are very messy.

Fold in your rough edges about 1 inch towards the back of the mat. You can simply duct tape these down since no one will see the underside of your pet bowl mat. If you prefer though you can use a product like no sew. When you iron down the edges though, make sure you place a rag between the primed canvas and your iron. The primer will melt and burn. It will also ruin your iron. You could also use fabric glue to hem the edge to even simply sew it down with a sewing machine.

Now, time to personalize you pet food bowl mat craft project. Use this opportunity to reflect your cat or dog’s personality.

I like to use painters tape to tape of a two inch border along the outside edges of the mat. Then in the middle you can paint pictures of your cat or dog. You can paint their names or even carry on the theme in you kitchen so that it blends in. This is he time to get creative!
