Hooters of Clearwater, Florida: The Original Hooters
Hooters was founded by six men who knew nothing of the restaurant business. They just wanted a place to go where they would not get kicked out of, and so Hooters was born in Clearwater, Florida on October 4, 1983. Not too much has changed since the opening of Hooters in 1983. The uniforms
are pretty much the same, consisting of short orange shorts, and a tank-top displaying the Hooters logo. According to the Hooters.com web site, bra and pantyhose are required attire to be worn by all Hooters Girls.
The Hooters Girl has become a socially acceptable title, with similarities to a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader or a Radio City Rockette. Hooters does not just hire women. Men are hired to work as managers or cooks. There are over 400 Hooters restaurants in the United States along, not including the international stores. It has ranked high as one of the industry's growth leaders.
As far as the food is concerned, Hooters has a great American selection of eats. On my most recent visit i enjoyed one of their Hooter's Burgers, which consisted of a white bun with the meat patty, with a piece of lettuce, tomato, onion, and a pickle. You can pick and choose what you want on it. I also enjoyed a side of their curly fries, which were a nice addition to the burger. I also added ketchup, which there was plenty of on the table, and mustard, which I wish that they would at least have a squirt bottle for so that you do not have to tear open the little annoying packets. Overall, it was a very tasty burger and fries.
Hooters is known for their wings, which I am not a fan of, but all of my friends rave about. You can get them in three different flavors, mild, spicy, and Three Mile Island. When you order hot wings, they first bring by a plate for you to put your bones into, with a wet napkin or two for you to clean your hands with when you are done. A nice addition to the experience. My other friend ordered a Cuban sandwich, which looked amazing. He finished the entire sandwich, and they serve you a nice portion to feed off of.
