While basketball insiders and dedicated fans knew what to expect from tiny Davidson in the NCAA Tournament, the majority of the nation did a collective "Aawhhaa?" when the name Stephen Curry kept popping up. Stephen Curry 40 points; Stephen Curry 30 points; Stephen Curry 30 points in a half... who is this kid?!Stephen Curry, son of NBA player Dell Curry, is my hero, that's who he is. Stephen Curry has led Davidson through the NCAA Tournament, past number 7 Gonzaga (OK, even I saw that one coming), number 2 Georgetown (I was a little bit mad there, as I had Georgetown in the Final Four) and now past number 3 Wisconsin. In doing so, Davidson has advanced past the Sweet Sixteen and is in the Elite Eight.
You can say you knew this was going to happen, and hey, maybe your NCAA Tournament bracket even had Davidson going this far. But there is no way you knew that Stephen Curry was this good. Sure you did you say, after all, he went off for 30 points against Maryland last year. There's the NBA bloodline of course and you've single handedly watched about 2000 NCAA basketball games this year and know all about Stephen Curry and his 25.7 points per game average and 44.4% shooting stroke from behind the arc with the sweetest shooting stroke you will ever find...and you just had that feeling right?
We can all say that now, but when you look at Stephen Curry you just don't see this kind of game in that kind of kid. A bit scrawny (that's an understatement), with a basketball uniform that looks like a men's extra-large on a 10 year old, Stephen Curry just doesn't shout "NCAA Tournament Stud!" at you when you see him. Stephen Curry is the first basketball player guiding his team deftly through the challenges of the NCAA Tournament since J.J. Redick that I've looked at and said: "Hey, I can beat this kid up!" (The big difference being, that you just can't help but root for Stephen Curry and Davidson, while Duke Basketball is on everybody's "boo list". I may think I can take Stephen Curry, but I actually wanted to test the theory against Redick.)
