What I Really Think About Scientology

People all over the place are asking the question, "What is Scientology all about?" I've seen this question asked numerous times online by many different people, and the answers being offered are interesting to say the least. After some experience in the subject
myself, I thought that I might just chime on in and have a say in it too - so, here's what I really think about Scientology...

A bit of background:

In 1995 I (very hesitantly) walked into the building of a local Church of Scientology at the behest of a family member who was trying to help me move in a better direction in life. However I had heard from some of my friends that I should take some caution because it was a very strange and dishonest "cult", and had also heard that it's modus operandi included a brainwashing technique that caused it's members to blindly follow the beliefs... I didn't have much to lose so despite my hesitation I went in. Here's what happened:

It saved my life.

At that point I realized it really was possible to make something of my life, to move in a direction that I believed in and by my own standards. The sensation was something along the lines of "Hey, somebody turned on the lights - and I wasn't even conscious enough to know they were off!" I was actually excited to be alive.

Since that time I have continued to move in the direction of my own goals, consistently accomplishing more and more - and will continue to do better. But perhaps more importantly I have become very aware of people and things in my environment - an ability that cannot be overstated.

In short, I'm having a great time and lovin' life.

But - how can this be? After all, don't Scientologists become a bunch of insane, mindless, brainwashed robots who blindly follow the dogmatic teachings of an alien-worshipping, secretive so-called religion? And wasn't it's founder a madman? And, and, and...

Well, I may be considered a bit strange by some, but it's mainly because I prefer a comfy pair of 501's and a good 'ol pair of Chuck Taylors over Gucci or Prada any day of the week. Oh yeah, and the fact that I love liver pate with spicy mustard on French bread. That's probably a bit on the weird side.
