Setting goals are among the easiest steps to weight-loss....it's keeping focused on them that can difficult. As a mother I recognize clearing your home of 'temptations' will be all but impossible. I have to have some crackers and white bread and cheese, etc on hand for my children; but if I were attempting to lose weight these could set me up for failure.

There are some easy steps to keep yourself from dipping your hands into the snacks you have in your home (and can't get rid of) .

1) Place all of the dry snacks in one cabinet, place all the refrigerated ones in one spot in the fridge. It's much easier to avoid one cabinet then it is to constantly skip over item after item in the pantry.

2) Place goal pictures in strategic places. Find some photos of healthy (not anorexic) models with the body you desire to achieve - place them on the refrigerator, on the snack cabinet door, etc. Each time you go to pull out the ice cream your eyes will wander over that trim body and it's as if you can feel all the little dimples and jiggles vibrate on your own. This is an amazingly effective tool.

3) If your family are capable, have them get their own snacks - it's best to not tempt yourself with constant handling.

4) Last but not least, why not make Health a family affair? Chances are most of those snacks in the cabinet aren't good for the kids either. In that case maybe you can get grid of most of them - why not take the opportunity to lead by example, bringing the whole family in on the Wellness boat?
