I've decided to decorate my bathroom in an ocean theme. I had some old seashells in a jar I bought at a garage sale. I considered just setting them on the counter like their previous owner did. But, that would be rather boring. So, I decided to use some of the seashells to make some guardian angels instead. Read this instructive article and find out how you can make your own
homemade guardian angel using sea shells!

Materials You'll Need to Make a Homemade Guardian Angel Using Sea Shells

5 Sea Shells:

Body 1-1/2 inches X 1-1/2 inches
2 Wings 1 inch wide X 1-3/4 inches long
Head 1 inch wide X 1 inch long
Head 3/4 of an inch long X 1/2 inch wide

These are the approximate dimensions of the homemade guardian angel using sea shells in the example picture. This finished guardian angel measures about 3 inches tall and is 2 inches wide.

To find sea shells that will fit together the best, do a dry run first. That is, lay them together on a flat surface; replace the sea shells that don't fit together well.

1 Small Ribbon 1-3/4 inches wide
The ribbon itself is only 1/4 inch wide

Silver Elastic about 3 inches long

2 Silver Cluster Beads

Hot Glue Gun with glue

6 Easy Steps How to Make a Homemade Guardian Angel Using Sea Shells

1. Place the sea shell you're using for the guardian angel body flat down on a work surface. Grab the two wings. Place a length of hot glue on the edge of the left wing. Then, press the right wing to it and hold them together for several seconds.

2. Place a short length of hot glue on the top edge of the body sea shell to make your homemade guardian angel. Then, press the bottom of the glued-together wings to the upper edge of the body. Hold the pieces together for several seconds.

3. The next step to make a homemade guardian angel using sea shells is to lay the body and the wings right-side up on a flat surface. Fold the silver elastic in half and hold it while you place a short ribbon of glue on the seam where the wings meet. Carefully press the elastic into the hot glue--- Be Careful! It's Hot!--- and hold it until it stays in place.

I know someone who collects shells and uses them in crafts. Anyone interested in an Eiffel Tower made of shells, lol? But seriously, I'm passing the info on to my friend.

Good article. You can also turn the angels into a kitchen magnet by hot gluing a magnet onto the back. I saw them for sale at Wal-Mart for $2.59.
