Too Young at Eighteen

17
She was too young to be married
She was too young to have a child
But how could she have known?

It was a time she had longed
For independence, not knowing that
The price to pay was way too high

Three years later, now divorced with two kids
She is still too young too know
Five years later another marriage plus one more child

Will she ever know?
Add six more years and one more seed
Now she is starting to see

Twenty years later since she asked
For independence, and the price to pay is still too high
She now knows that she will never be set free

But the choices she made have let her see
That if not for them, she couldn't be who she is
Nor what she will be
