On March 1, 2008 a group of teens in Wausau, Wisconsin held a keg party. The difference between this kegger and the usual keg party was that the keg itself wasn't filled with beer, but filled with Root Beer. They drank with glee from the red plastic cups; the same cups usually filled with alcohol at a teen party.

Police were called when cars began parking up and down the street. The kids became loud as the music blared and partygoers chatted loudly. Neighbors naturally figured it was a typical teen party...out of control with booze and other illegal substances. They did what any responsible neighbor would do and called the police about the cars blocking the road.

When the cops arrived they announced that cars would be towed if they were not moved. Inside, they found dozens of teens involved in drinking game, laughing and having a good time. They gave breath tests to each person at the party. Nearly 90 breath tests were done in all. Officers even searched locked rooms for hiding teens.
All the tests came back negative for alcohol. Police Chief Daniel Joling is quoted as having said, "If one kid had come there, even hadn't drank there, but had come there and had been drinking and had left and crashed and burned, then what would the sentiment be? Why didn't the police check everybody out?"
The party was hosted by Dustin Zebro, age 18; after he had seen a video on YouTube.com depicting a party where the kids involved had been suspended from sports. All the video showed was them drinking from the infamous red cups; without knowing what exactly was in the cups. He did it to make fun of the other school officials; to show them that it may not have been alcohol at all that the students were drinking.

This should be a reminder that there are good, wholesome kids left that know how to have a good time without drugs and alcohol being involved. It should also show that parents are teaching their kids better ways to have fun than to break the law.

I love this article! I'm glad that there are people who are not only focusing on the trouble teenagers get into and pointing out that they do have some good ideas.

We need more articles like this. Take this concept and run with it. But the bottom line is this: WHERE do teens learn to have fun from? Two sources: 1) Sober parents, or 2) Drunk parents.

Wow, what a great story. Teens can have fun at parties and good for them for filling their keg with Root Beer! Better to be loud when you get in trouble rather than be in jail or kill someone on the road. Thanks for sharing this.

Very good article. I can't believe the number of parents who buy liquor for their underage kids' parties and then leave them unchaperoned.

Great article! I hadn't heard about this incident. Always get a kick from kids (young adults) spoofing everyone by being GOOD! Guess we have to remember that they're not ALL up to mischief, eh? Wonderful perspective on an intriguing topic here! Kim

Good for those kids! I never drank when I was in high school (I won't talk about now ;-)), and I had lots of fun.
