When I was first asked to do an article on weird technology, I thought ... hmmm this could be interesting. But I was worried I'd run out of material, that I'd fail to come up with subjects to write on. At this point, I'm not sure how many weeks I've been writing this article but I've finally come to the conclusion that our world provides plenty of fodder for it. The saying that truth is stranger than fiction constantly comes to smack me in the face and I'm left sitting here, staring at my monitor with all sorts of web-worthy acronyms flashing through my mind (anyone up for a good ol' wtf m8?).Sometimes I despair for the human race. I really do. And I'm not even talking about Shannon Larratt's predictions of a coming human vs. robot apocalypse (though it is a fascinating read, chock filled with tasty tid-bits straight from Ted Kaczynski's Unabomber Manifesto). No, I'm more filled with despair at the thought of how millions of Americans have come to adulthood still happily gulping down fairy tales. Not Grimm's.
I suppose I shouldn't be so harsh. There have been conspiracy theories ... well, probably as long as people have gathered in groups and learned to speak. The abundance of conspiracy theories thriving on the Internet has me hanging my head, though. So let's see, should we take a pick or just start giggling at several? I mean, come on, don't most of us realize that the Enquirer is for entertainment purposes only? My current favorite conspiracy-theory laugh material, then:
NASA Fakes Moon Landing - http://users.pandora.be/vdmoortel/dirk/MoonLanding/MoonLanding.html
AFDB (The Aluminum Foil Deflector Beanie to effectively prevent mind control) - http://zapatopi.net/afdb/

And just so you don't feel left out - write your own conspiracy theory at Turn Left - http://www.cjnetworks.com/~cubsfan/conspiracy.html

Conspiracy theories are the stuff of the Internet, but who knew Britney Spears was an expert in physics? Seriously, there are times when the world just might need to be watched...
