My Weekend at the Haunted Eastern Woodcarver's Building
One of Indiana's Most Haunted Locations
I recently had the opportunity to spend two nights at the Eastern Woodland Carvers building in Converse, Indiana. The building is reputed to be one of Indiana's most haunted locations, and indeed, my weekend there was quite full of paranormal activity.Upon arrival, the members of my group, the Indiana Horror Writers, were given a tour through the building by Bob Freeman, the current IHW president and a resident of Converse. The first floor of the building was full of beautiful wood carvings. There was a small
We were warned not to traverse any of the staircases alone since people have been known to be pushed down the stairs. The third floor of the wood carver's building used to be an Oddfellows lodge. It is also home to an evil entity and several people have complained of a tightening in the chest when traversing the third floor.
Several of us tried to take photographs on the third floor but when we went to snap the shots we found our cameras were dead. Our cell phone batterys also drained quickly in the building.
On the first night of our stay we were joined by the Paranormal research team Quest from Indianapolis. The had done an investigation in the wood carver's building once before and captured on film a full body apparition going from one side of the second floor hallway to the other. One of the Quest people told me that this particular building was the only place that he had ever walked away from with a 100% feeling that the place was haunted.
