Through my training in early childhood education, I have learned that children learn best through hands-on activities and through objects that they are familiar with. We all know how important it is to teach children about God and his unwavering love. Object lessons and kid sermons are the perfect way to tell our children about God and his acts of greatness so that they want to know more. Object lessons and kid sermons can be used for Sunday School lessons, Vacation Bible Schools, Kid's Worship on Sunday mornings or for your own children at home. Any important message can be taught to children by using object lessons and kid sermons.
An important lesson to teach children is to let their light shine so that others may see God's light through them as the bible tells us in Matthew 5:16. Below, is a simple let your light shine object lesson to drive home the message that we should all let our lights shine.
Object Lessons and Kid Sermons: Let Your Light Shine, Flashlight Object Lesson
Prepare by taking the batteries out of a flashlight and placing a piece of masking tape on each battery, write Jesus on one battery and Christ on another. Put the batteries in your pocket but keep the flashlight in tact as if it is ready to use. For these object lessons and kid sermons, you can use a unique flashlight like ones that makes colored lights or one shaped like an animal etc. for added interest if you have them.
Come into your room of children and excitedly tell them that you got a new flashlight and you can't wait to show them how it works. Talk very quickly about how much you love your new flashlight because your mom bought it for you, it is green, your favorite color etc. Just as you get ready to turn on the flashlight, ask the class if they are really ready to see your new flashlight in action. Turn it on and then act very dramatically upset that it didn't turn on. Have the children check the switch to make sure it is on. Talk a lot about why it may not work, Finally, figure out that you do not have batteries in the flashlight.

Without batteries, a flashlight can't shine. A flashlight needs power. We need power too. With Jesus in our hearts, we have the ultimate power source deep inside us. Let your light shine!
