I was looking for a quality cast iron grill press for quite some time and could not manage to get a decent stuff. My hunt for the grill press had a temporary halt when my sister gifted me the Lodge Logic Pre Seasoned Cast Iron Round Grill Press during the last Christmas season. This has almost everything that you look for in a grill press except that it is round. Actually I wanted a rectangular press and that is the only reason why I am not totally satisfied with this piece. Otherwise this is almost perfect. The Round Press comes in 7 inch diameter and hence it cannot be used with small skillets and grills. Even with 8 inch, pan it is not fully compatible and leaves some space uncovered. I find that this is apt with 10 and 12 inch round pan and in that case this round grill press sits perfectly without leaving any space unprotected. Not only that compared to a rectangular grill, the round is not efficient simply because of less surface area. With rectangular press, you can accommodate more Panini and sandwich.
Only after using a grill press you will realize how inefficient a spatula is to flatten and extract the grease from the meat. As expected, the heavy cast iron construction flattens the patties, ham strips, bacon and steaks to straighten them neatly without any curls. Not only that, it ejects the undesirable oil and fat from the chicken, beef, hamburger and chops. Apart from that it also facilitates to keep the sandwich warm. An easy tip is to preheat the grill and press so that it can retain heat for long.
Major issue with the traditional cast iron grill press is the laborious seasoning and the painful scrubbing to remove the stuck meat and uncooked flesh on the press. The Lodge Logic puts an end to this problem because it comes with Prue seasoned press and the professional electrostatic vegetable oil coating enhances the performance. This is durable and seasoning and you don't have to repeat the seasoning and greasing at regular intervals like the way you do with the conventional press. It looks good with the patina and hammered finish.
