The Faithless Intolerance of Christianity

I've been doing a lot of thinking about religious hostilities, who's less tolerant of who and who needs to see the light, and I think I can say wish some measure of authority that,- on the subject of who needs to change and who needs to be more tolerant and accepting,- basically everyone
 is wrong.

Being a Heathen of sorts, though, I've noticed that the greatest amount of hostility and direction-less rage seems to come from the Monotheist. Sure, there are plenty of people from all belief systems and all walks of life that have this kind of rage and inability to deal with the fact that there will always be people who disagree with them, but Monotheists - Christians, in particular - major in the subject.

They've got all sorts of neat ways to keep us under their thumb while trying to make us out to be the bad guy. That's right, a religion that makes up roughly 1/3 of the world's religious population is actually *hiding* behind false panic that they've spread since the last throws of the Roman empire that states that, no matter how many Christians there are, there will always be thirty times more dark, evil forces with weird gods who practice horrific Satan worship and evil magic just to tick the Christians off.

This idea that we're all trying to suck you down into hell with us is degrading, not to us but to those who perpetuate it. Think about this for a second, please. You guys are about a third of the world, you hold all of the political and religious power in the North American continent and you still try and act like you're weak, feeble and need protection from the boogey man.

What gets me is that you can't possibly not know how stupid that is. Not religiously - I have no problem with the bare bones of Monotheist religions, generally they've got good roots and a decent message, but when this message is perverted to the point where "Love Thy Neighbor" is replaced with "Lynch The Gays", you get on my radar and, honestly, I don't like it anymore than you do because I end up having to take time out of my precious life to lecture you on being freaking ridiculous, which I can do until I'm blue in the face and it's not going to make you see reason.

Hmm...interesting! The Native Americans suffered from the 'convert or die' campaign when the catholic church came here. I still experience tons of ostracism for not being christian...from my own family. Personally I believe the christian church is the 'beastly religion' prophesied in the 'new testament.' Those prophecies were written several hundred years before the christians came along...an did EVERY thing the prophets said they would.

I think things just get crazy whenever extremists get involved, which is odd since that's basically what I am though I'm not dangerous - yet, lol. I didn't know about the Phelps thing - Poor Matthew, as if he hasn't gone through enough, why not just let his spirit find peace, you know?

I whole-heartedly agree that there are many wonderful charities set up by Christians, but they aren't by far the most numerous in the world and even if they were, I'm speaking directly a situation that's shameful and not about any good that may have been done because, let's face it, most of the people here are Christian or Muslim so there are enough people for the cause and there's no point in me making bones about that. :)

Hey Justice - thanks for the comment! I want to point out, though, that I did say that I think the roots of these Monotheist religions are very good ones, and this article is pointing out what I *do not* like, not what I do like which, honestly isn't much. "remember, the ancient Aztecs pulled the hearts from living human sacrifices to appease their gods" - I know, that was so metal! Go Aztecs! I don't remember condemning Christians for their human sacrifices ( which did happen, btw ), if that's what your God wants than so be it, what I condemn them for is using the rest of us like ponies and riding us around the planet, taking all our freedoms away, etc. Plus a lot of times when religions around that area of the world conducted human sacrifice ( and almost all religions did at some point, don't fool yourself ) they treated the to-be-sacrificed like a God for months or even years before hand.

Lastly, the notion that charity minded Christians blackmail the starving into converting is horseshit. I guarantee that some indeed do, but a very small minority. Our own Knoxville Area Rescue Mission helps the homeless and drug addicted in the name of God, but does not force Him on anyone. There are more Christian charities who help ANYONE unconditionally than from any other religion on Earth. No, we aren'y perfect, and there are those among us who aren't who they claim to be, but to typecast everyone who serves God and reveres Jesus as evil and oppressive is just plain wrong. Anyway, thanks for listening! I am truly enjoying your writing and the thought provoking arguments you set forth. Have a good evening.

Faith, first let me say you did a corkingly good job with this article as far as pointing out the hypocrisy of many Christians. It seems that the whiter the picture, the darker the negative. I also agree with you that some "witnesses" only care about keeping score of how many souls they "saved", which I think is disgusting, and definitely not of God. That is why I despise door-to-door witnessing; God does not want us to hound people into serving Him. However, I do take issue with you condemning the entire Christian Faith just because certain groups and individuals have inexcusably used it to further their own agendas. A phsychopath can find any excuse to perpetrate evil, and polytheistic religions are no exception (remember, the ancient Aztecs pulled the hearts from living human sacrifices to appease their gods).
