In this three part series on mouth ulcers, we will be learning the causes, the symptoms, and cures of Mouth Ulcers. In this part of 'Everything About Mouth Ulcers', we will be looking at the prevention and possible cures for mouth ulcers.
Mouth ulcers can last from anywhere between 2 days to 4 weeks. They generally persist (with the pain) unless treated, though in rare cases they might go away by themselves (thanks to the cleansing and anti-septic action of saliva). The best way to prevent mouth ulcers is to maintain proper dental hygiene. Brushing your teeth twice a day and using good microbe killing mouthwashes are good ways to prevent mouth ulcers. However, you have to be careful because irritating your skin with certain chemicals can actually lead to mouth ulcers. At the same time, reduce your intake of spicy, acidic, or salty foods and drinks, as they tend to predispose you to it. Keep in mind that certain spices such as basil and cayenne pepper have anti-septic and anti-microbe properties, to they might be helpful in certain cases. Also, applying a significant amount of salt to the ulcer has been shown to be very efective at destroying mouth ulcers, though it is also extremely painful.
