You know you've gone full circle when the most unique thing you can do to your hair is return it to its natural color. Has your hair been foiled and highlighted and increasingly lightened with each and every salon visit? Are you no longer recognizable to people who knew you five years ago? Are you tired of those dark roots that crop up every six weeks begging to be noticed? Or perhaps you've colored your own hair so much that there is not appropriate name for your homemade color.Time for a Change?
If your hair is two or three shades lighter than its natural color it might be time for a radical change. Typically fall is the a perfect time to return to your roots, for those of living in non-beach locales, anyway. Say goodbye to those foiled and highlighted pieces, and maybe even to the overall color.
Returning to your "natural" color does not mean it has to be boring. A seasoned hairdresser will find the right shade for you that is close to your natural color, but with added oomph. Discuss with your professional hair colorist if you should choose a warm or cool shade, depending on your complexion.
For example, my hair had been highlighted or lightened at every other salon visit over the last two years. The highlights were pretty, but the base color kept "pulling red." There have been times when I have had red hair, including a pretty and light copper red, and a deep purplish red. I currently do not want any red in my hair, so when my skilled hairdresser and I discussed a "natural" color I told her that I wanted a cool not warm color, with no red. We did not even look at color swatches, I trust her that much. The color she chose is a "Chocolate Brown."
By returning my hair to a color closer to my natural shade (my natural shade may be slightly lighter), my hair has renewed shine and bounce. The rich brown also brings out my light blue eyes better than theblond highlights did.
