Kawasaki Ninja 250 for Beginner Riders

Kawasaki Ninja 250 Rules

If you’re just beginning motorcycling or are looking for a good everyday commuter, stop looking, the 250 Ninja is the bike to get.  Although, it doesn’t have much competition, the 250 Ninja blows them all away.  The 250’s main competitors are the
Honda Nighthawk, a standard motorcycle and the Suzuki GZ250, a cruiser bike.

If you want the specs for the Kawasaki Ninja 250, read them on the website at www.kawasaki.com.  Or if you don't want to read it from there, I can tell you that it has enough power to allow you to pass cars on the freeway comfortably but not so much power that you feel like you can fly off.  It is small and light enough to handle with ease but big enough to ride on for hours on.

I want to talk about my first 2 weeks on this bike, including how I bought it.   So, I have been looking for a Ninja 250 for about a year now but haven’t really got the money to buy one. This summer, I was determined to finally get it.  I would look everyday on
sandiego.craigslist.com and losangeles.craigslist.com in hopes of finding a good deal for a motorcycle.  Finally, one day I found a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja 250 for sale with an asking price of $1,500.  It did have a salvaged title it said, but only because the front fairing plastics were cracked.  I didn’t have a problem with that as I was expecting to have a few falls myself and would not want to do that on a perfectly new bike.  I would recommend sacrificing a brand new bike for a worn in bike if you are just learning.

I just purchased a 2009 Ninja 250. I am 6.2 and weight 230 and have no problems. Great bike and a blast to ride.

There are trolls in this forum!! Anyhow, I don't see how a 6'3 person rides this bike. I'm 5'9.5 and it feels too short for me. I get hip cramps, especially in cold weather. I'll probably upgrade to the '09. I've sat on one and it already felt more comfortable. Also, this bike tops out at around 105. Forget 120-130 mph. And you shouldn't go those speeds anyway. Take Amtrak Acela if you want to see what 130 mph looks like. Anyhow, the Ninja 250 is a GREAT bike overall. A beginner's dream.

I just bought a Kawasaki Ninja 250 year 2000. It is a great starter bike. The bike is fast and fun to ride. My bike's top speed is 120mph and i love every second of it. Great on gas. I get 55 miles to the gallon. Have fun but be sure to wear a helmet.

I bought an 2003 Ninja 250 off of a buddy who wanted a bigger bike. I am 6'3" and I am very comfortable on the bike. As a beginner and never owning a standard shift car before, I had a lot to learn about riding a motorcycle. The Ninja has taken my abuse (NOT INTENTIONAL ABUSE) for a year and still runs great. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Hey Mike, I am taking my second day at MSF school and their 250's are a bit short for me as well. I am 5ft9. I have been looking into a ninja 250,2008 model which has a seat height of 30.1 inches. Do you enjoy riding your 250?

Great article. Makes me feel better about getting a 250. I can't wait to get good at it till I can ride a bigger one. Thanks.
